Based on the life and dance journey of India’s renowned Kathak dancer Guru Shovana Narayan, Padmashri and Sangeet Natak Awardee, who is a revolutionary and iconic dancer bringing new dimensions to Kathak for the last five years, the movie revolves around how Narayan has brought about the phenomenal change in the traditional art form while maintaining the originality at the same time.
Director Beenu Rajpoot, inspired by Narayan’s contribution to India’s Cultural heritage director has tried to capture glimpses of this journey. It took her a year and a half to complete this almost forty minutes movie where she tries to put forward a strong message to the society. The film is not about earning money instead it is all about facts, devotion, soul and beauty.
In this film she has tried to show Narayan’s persona as a dancer, because she is intense and passionate, elegant yet vibrant, effortlessly spanning centuries of Kathak heritage in her art. Being a filmmaker she believes that no art can pass our conscience in the way film does, and goes directly to our feeling.
Kathak dance is related to Katha – The art of storytelling, same thing she tries to convey as a film maker. “Storytelling” is a prominent characteristic in a director. How one narrates the story through moving video clips is a challenge every time.
For the past one and half decades, Beenu Rajpoot has made a niche in the competitive field of fashion designing. She is also a creative photographer and philosophical thinker. The movie is produced with support from Mr. Ashok Kumar Taneja Chairman of PPCT and Mr Harish Narula Chairman of Bharat Shakti.
Scheduled for screening at India International Center Auditorium, this 11th October 2016, at 6:30 pm it runs for a duration of 41 minutes 31 sec in English.
