Since ages, Iceland, also known as The Land of Ice and Fire, has managed to create a sense of awe and inspiration for many, including the celebrated writer, Jules Verne. In his fascinating tale, “The Journey to the Centre of the Earth” he places the Snæfellsjökull as the entrance for the main characters.
What makes Iceland a wonderful, dreamlike place is its natural setting, and environment, which includes, volcanoes, surrounded by geothermal landscape, ice laden terrains and one of the most amazing natural phenomenon in the world; Aurora Borealis among other things such as abundant natural resources, such as geothermal minerals, as well as oceanic resources which are rich in bio-beneficial materials.
That is not all; Iceland has a rich and unique heritage, culture and fashion space which can perfectly compliment to suit the tastes of Indians. Keeping this in mind, this weekend saw three major Icelandic companies from varied sectors such as wellness, clothing along with beauty and skincare foray into the Indian market. All the three companies are steered by three entrepreneurs and hope to disrupt the current Indian market scenario in their individual fields.
On the occasion, Julie Deb, the first woman chairperson of the Indo Icelandic Business Association (IIBA) said, “This is a first-of-its-kind venture where three major companies from Iceland are coming together with their products for the Indian market. What ties all the three brands is that their products are organic and environment friendly.”
Fida Abu Libdeh, Co-founder and CEO of GeoSilica, the skincare and beauty remarked, “The fact that our products are unique is because of the use of geothermal supplements extracted from the volcanic regions of Iceland. The minerals found in the area are unique and rich in silica which is really beneficial for hair, skin, nail as well as ligaments and bones. We want people to know about the benefits and are also planning to collaborate with Indian R&D facilities to develop products to their full potential.”
Hrönn Margrét Magnúsdóttir the Founder and CEO, Feel Iceland, said, “Feel Iceland produces skincare products and food supplements which work from the inside-out and outside-in. We use pure ingredients from Iceland such as oceanic products to utilise and create amazing range for the consumers. We are really excited to venture into India and also utilise Indian skincare techniques and technologies for our products.”
Helga Steinþórsdottir, Designer at MÝR Design told Global Fashion Street, “MÝR Design has been a leading name in Iceland and we create products exclusive for women. At MÝR Design we believe in combining feminine, classic elegant designs but with modern elements twists and attention to details.”
Talking about the Indian Market, she commented, “Indeed we are excited to penetrate the Indian fashion scenario as feminity is perceived bold and powerful in India. We are currently studying the Indian consumers to understand the preferences, tastes and sizes as they vary in the two countries.”
