“Creating a mosaic is a painstakingly long process where I hand-cut and assemble small pieces of glass and/ or tiles on a substrate to form an artwork.”

Having worked as an illustrator and graphic designer for more than 15 years, I ventured into the world of glass mosaics when I realized how little pieces of glass could come together in a cohesive manner to paint any beautiful picture.

The paintings in glass have the magic of catching the sunlight in different angles and what resonates is something beyond words. With every glistening from the glass painting the eye moves with a different perspective. It’s an experience.

The choice of colours and the tesserae that are put together, are the actual brush strokes for a glass mosaic artist. Rhythm in pieces showcases a few of my works which I have created over a period of last 3-4 years. While creating these artworks I was trying to find my individual style.

The style of one mosaic artist can differ widely from the other in terms of subject, color palette and most importantly the ‘andamento’ or the flow of pieces or tiles. Nature finds a big place in my mosaics. I just love to create birds, flowers and fish in my mosaics.

I try to introduce flow and movement in my mosaics as much as possible as that really adds life to them. Just a twirl in the tail of the goldfish or the way the dragonfly’s body curves makes all the difference!

With this exhibition, I hope to spread more awareness about the art of mosaics which unfortunately has been looked upon more as a craft .A fine piece of mosaic can very well be a fine piece of art is what I strongly believe in!
