Madhur Bhandarkar’s latest film, Calendar Girls is a great story. As much as acting is important, a strong story for a good movie is equally imperative for a film to make an impact on its audience. The acting skills of the newcomers in the movie is quite weak, however, Bhandarkarwith his strong Direction skills has managed to easily pull off the movie to make it look like straight out of a bestseller. What makes the movie interesting is its unpredictability.
And Madhur Bhandarkar has once again proven what a great storyteller he is. His latest movie, ‘Calendar Girls’ is a story of five aspiring models, who come from varied backgrounds from around the country and despite their personal challenges, want to make it big in the glamour world. The storyline is beautifully woven around the realistic situations of today’s glamour industry in India. The fact that the main star-cast of the movie does not boast of any big names is hardly relevant after the first initial introductions of the characters. Bhandarkar has pulled through a strong story with his direction skills and some veteran actors like Kiran Kumar and Meeta Vashisht, who add to some saving grace with their good acting. Some other interesting characters are also played by Suhel Seth and Rohit Roy.
The movie offers quite an entertainment and some eye openers for all aspiring models. In his typical style, Bhandarkar has left a message for his audience about the realistic challenges faced by people from the glamour world. Some insights and some fiction, the movie is a good take on people who aspire to be famous and the choices they make. It is interesting to see how Bhandarkar has once again managed to easily prove that it’s not the industry but the people and their choice that ultimately decides their road to success.
The music and styling in the movie is just a little above average.
