Unexpected Beauty Uses for Apple Cider Vinegar
Prevent and Treat Acne
Acne doesn’t stand a chance with ACVs triple threat – antifungal, antibacterial and antimicrobial – working in harmony to clear your pores of dirt, pollution and bacteria. It acts as a natural exfoliant, cleansing your skin of dead skin cells and pore-clogging bacteria, to keep you blemish-free. ACV may even reduce the intensity of scars. However, it’s worth mentioning that ACV can burn you if applied undiluted, directly onto the skin.
Blemish Control Treatment:Mix 1 part ACV to 3 parts water. Use on a clean face, only on affected areas with a cotton ball and let sit for 20 seconds before rinsing.
Exfoliate and Soothe Your Skin
Alpha-hydroxy acids and anti-inflammatory properties work together to chemically exfoliate and strip away dead skin cells and balance your skin’s pH – leaving your skin soft, supple and smooth.
Soothing Soak: Take a bath and soak in 8 ounces of ACV for 15 minutes.
Heal Sunburns
Between the anti-inflammatory properties and ACV’s ability to restore your skin’s pH, ACV can help calm and soothe your overexposed skin.
Sunburn Treatment: Mix a half cup of ACV in 4 cups of water and use a washcloth to distribute on the affected area.
Facial Toner
ACV is an astringent meaning it can function as a toner to clean skin, tighten pores and kill off bacteria or impurities. This is especially of use if you have an oily skin type. It will also help balance your skin’s pH.
DIY Toner: Dip a cotton ball in ACV toner (1 tbsp ACV in 2 cups of water) and apply to clean skin. Leave on, or rinse if desired.
Hair Treatment
Remove product buildup and treat dandruff with ACV for stronger shinier hair. Because of the antimicrobial properties, ACV can help with an itchy scalp. With ACV’s alpha-hydroxy acid it will exfoliate your head to reduce inflammation which in turn will help prevent dandruff.
Dandruff-Buster: Use equal parts ACV to water before shampooing onto wet hair and scalp. Leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing.
Buildup Buster: After shampooing massage mixture (2 tbsp ACV to 1 cup of water) onto scalp and allow it to sit for 10 minutes before rinsing and conditioning.
Deodorizer
Thanks to the acid in ACV that balances your skin’s pH levels, the unintended result is it kills bacteria and odour. ACV and its antiseptic properties can deodorize feet and armpits. The benefit of apple cider vinegar to cure foot odour is the antimicrobial properties will also help treat and prevent athlete’s foot.
How-To: Soak feet in ¼ cup of ACV to ¾ cup of water for fifteen minutes.
